SUPER-SESSIONS

Joe Beam

This session addresses the most recent research on Generation iY, (the latest batch of Gen Y) and how their style impacts youth ministry.  They are the kids born between 1990 and 2002 and are part of the largest generation in our history. The older you are, the more you'll feel like an immigrant among natives—with this new generation.  We have the privilege of mentoring them and helping to shape their future. This session turns research into reality, with principles & practical steps on reaching the next generation for Christ.

This supersession will build hope in youth ministers for better marriages, educate Yms about building/maintaining their marriages, and inspire Yms to serve more effectively with energy that comes from holy, proactive marriages. Participants will learn: 1. How a good offense is the best defense. 2. How a "ministry marriage" is different and needs specialized attention. 3. Recognition of affair potential and what must be done to stop it. 4. The importance of maintaining personal physical, emotional, and spiritual balance.

Culture's perceptions of Christianity are largely negative. Is this a result of the persecution that the Church was forewarned to accept or is a result of our own doing? In this session, Gabe Lyons will summarize the way the next generation feels about Christians and offer a hopeful vision for how we can reach a new generation with the power of the gospel.

When Jesus told his parable about three types of soil, he was acknowledging a basic principle of effective communication: "It's not what we say; it's what they hear that counts." This seminar will offer a big picture survey of three big ideas that shape the soil of adolescent culture: paganism, pluralism, and postmodernism, and explore some of the ways these big ideas are played out in the real world of everyday teenage life.
